Now that you've written the introduction to your essay, you need to start thinking about the organization of your research. Consider the following questions:
In order to understand what your song is protesting, is it important to include the history of the event? If so, how in depth do you need to describe that history?
How much information do you feel is necessary to include about the song artist?
Did the song you're reporting on impact history? If so, what sort of effect did it have?
The above questions should help you determine the most important elements of your essay. Remember, too, that organization is key. You want to organize your report so that it falls into a logical order.
Things that you want to include in your essay are:
The song name
The artist/musician/songwriter
The social ill/problem being protested
An explanation of the history behind the song
The song's significance in history
Song lyrics
When incorporating song lyrics into your essay, IT IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT to explain what those lyrics mean and why you've chosen to include them. No quote plopping.
Length Requirement
I would expect this paper to, at the very least, be five paragraphs. It's possible that you'll have more to say. It's also possible that you'll have six paragraphs, but that two of those paragraphs are only four sentences in length.
Works Cited
You should have AT LEAST five sources on your works cited page. Listing a source on the works cited page means that said source also appears as an in-text citation in your paper. If you use an in-text citation that doesn't appear on the works cited page, you will lose points. If you have five sources on your works cited page but only include three in-text citations in your paper, you will lose points. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ASK YOUR PEER EDITORS TO LOOK AT YOUR WORKS CITED PAGE. This is worth 25% of your grade.
